An independent auditor and triggers
Volkswagen officials in Chattanooga are set to begin regular meetings with the United Auto Workers' local union as it continues to gain the support of employees.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that UAW Local 42 has signed up at least 45 percent of the Chattanooga plant's workforce. That membership has been verified by an independent auditor and triggers new rights for the union, including biweekly meetings with Volkswagen officials at the factory.
Gary Casteel, the union's secretary treasurer, told the Free Press the next step is to have VW officially recognize the UAW, so the union can bargain on behalf of employees.
